Series Info …
Oberlin trails the all-time series against the Quakers 1-11-1 … Saturday marks the 14th meeting between the two schools, dating back to 1945 … Oberlin's lone victory against the Little Giants came in their first meeting in 1945 when the Yeomen beat Wabash 32-7 in their season opener on their way to an undefeated 8-0 season … The lone tie came two years later in 1947 with a 7-7 stalemate … Last season, the loss to Wabash allowed the Little Giants to clinch the 2008 NCAC title for the fourth time in as many years, while also extending their win streak over the Yeomen to 11 games … The Little Giants took control of the game from the start building a 27-0 bulge through the first quarter on two touchdown runs by Bobby Kimp and a 47-0 halftime lead thanks to two more scoring passes from quarterback Matt Hudson … Oberlin's lone score came in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard scoring plunge by Wayne Mundekis capping a nine play, 68-yard drive.

Scouting the Little Giants …

The Little Giants are coming off a rebound win at the College of Wooster last week … Freshman quarterback Chase Belton made his first career start for the Little Giants in their 37-27 win over the Scots … Although he is only a freshman, Belton played like a veteran completing 18-of-31 passes for 283 yards, four touchdowns, and no turnovers, while rushing for another 25 yards … He quickly learned that defenses struggle to contain junior wideout Kody LeMond … LeMond leads the team in receptions, yards, and touchdowns with 43 catches for 779 yards and 11 scores this season … Last week, LeMond had a monster game with 10 catches for 197 yards and four scores, which has given him 2,084 yards in 23 games, passing 2,000 yards quicker than any Wabash receiver … Look for senior quarterback Matt Hudson to again take the reins for the Little Giants as he has been battling the flu the past two weeks … Through five games this season Hudson has thrown for 1,417 yards and 15 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 66 percent … The Little Giants are led defensively by seniors linebacker Bryan Watson and safety Addrian Frederick … Watson has accounted for 43 tackles on the year, good for second best on the team, including team leading 8.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks … He has also recovered two fumbles this season … Frederick heads the defensive secondary with 26 tackles and seven interceptions.

Play Keep Away …

With nationally ranked Wabash coming to town this week, the Yeomen offense will need to be able to maintain possession of the ball by not turning it over … Sophomore punter Cory Kidd is having a career season punting for Oberlin … When the Little Giants get the ball on offense, the Yeomen will need to make sure that their high-powered attack has a long field to work with … Wabash is currently tied for the conference lead in takeaways with 21 already this season (9 fumbles, 12 interceptions) … Quarterback David Kalgren has been doing a phenomenal job not turning the ball over since taking the reins of the offense three games ago against the University of Chicago, only turning the ball over two times in that span.

Uphill Both Ways …
Wabash currently is second in the conference behind only Wittenberg in scoring defense holding opponents to 13.3 points per game … Their offense also leads the league in scoring averaging just under 40 points per game … If the Yeomen hope to have a chance to upend the Little Giants they will either need to put points on the board by getting the offense going, or keep their offense out of the end zone and keep the game close … If the game is close at the end do not be surprised to see Coach Jeff Ramsey pull out all the stops this week to muster any kind of scoring he can.

Hoping for a Quaker Carry Over …
The Yeomen put together their best effort of the season last week in a 19-13 win over Earlham … Oberlin had season-highs in passing yards (142), completions (19), and pass attempts (33) … The defense also forced a season-high six turnovers with three picks and three fumble recoveries … Junior linebacker Derrick Dennis had a whale of a game with an interception, fumble recovery and five tackles.

Clean Game …

Oberlin has once again become least penalized team in the NCAC averaging only 44 penalty yards per game … If the Yeomen hope to have a chance against the Little Giants, they need to make sure they do not shoot themselves in the foot by committing penalties, especially when they may be moving the ball on offense … If Oberlin's offense is to score on the Wabash defense, and if the Yeomen defense is to keep the Wabash offense out of the end zone, they will need to play a clean, physical game.
