Oberlin Field Hockey Falls at OWU

Box Score

Delaware, Ohio - The Oberlin field hockey team was defeated 6-1 by Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey action.

Oberlin once again played from behind as early as the opening minutes as Ohio Wesleyan's Mimi Anthony opened up the scoring just 2:24 into the game.  The Bishops scored again before the game was ten minutes old, taking an early 2-0 lead.

Oberlin answered the Bishops two early goals, getting on the board four minutes later.  First-year Danielle Jungst scored her first career goal on a tip-in directly in front of the net.  The goal was set up by a nice attacking play led by fellow first-year Sonya Kaufman.

The rest of the game belonged to the home team.  Mimi Anthony scored three more first half goals to give OWU a commanding 5-1 halftime lead.  The Bishops added another at the beginning of the second half and coasted to a 6-1 victory.

Ohio Wesleyan's offense was the story on this day as they peppered Oberlin goalkeeper Emily Bigelow with shots early and often.  OWU outshot Oberlin 32-8 in the game and forced Bigelow to make 17 saves.  OWU also earned 19 penalty corners to only six for the Yeowomen.

Oberlin will look to rebound this Saturday against Denison, a team they played tough earlier this season despite falling 3-1.  This game will take place at Denison at 12 pm.
