Richmond, Ind. – After two heartbreaking losses on Saturday, the Oberlin College volleyball team regrouped to defeat Earlham College in four sets (25-17, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20) and also took a set from No. 8 Wittenberg for the first time in over a decade in a 3-1 (22-25, 11-25, 25-23, 14-25) setback on Sunday afternoon.
“We did a great job battling through adversity to play some very good volleyball during this long weekend,” Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh said. “Everyone on the team contributed and I am confident we have the ability to play with anybody in our conference.”
In the win the over the Quakers, junior
Amanda Wysk hit .304 to lead the offense with 18 kills and just four errors. She also added five aces in the match.
Oberlin's defense came up big with 15 blocks, while senior
Tammela Platt spearheaded the digs effort with 33.
The Yeowomen used a balance arsenal to stay with the nationally ranked Tigers as Wysk (.229) was joined by fellow junior
Maggie Jacobson (.214), and first-years
Laura Jessee (.333) and
Rosie Eck (.174) with impressive hitting percentages.
Senior
Rita Kaplon orchestrated the diverse attack with 34 assists in the match. Platt added 13 digs to finish the day with 46 over the two matches.
Oberlin will look to avenge yesterday's five-set loss to Allegheny when it travels to Meadville on Wednesday night.
