Oberlin, Ohio –
The Oberlin College women's soccer team gave the visiting Allegheny College Gators all they could handle, but a late Gators' goal in the second half proved to be difference in a 1-0 decision on Tuesday night at Fred Shults Field.

“We played really well for the entire game, but unfortunately they were able to put one past us,” Head Coach Kristen Hayden said. “Our team has been continuing to improve each game and we have come a long way since the preseason. I am really proud of the work and effort they put in each and every day. ”

In the 72nd minute the Gators' Nicole Mascia would book the game's lone goal with an assist coming from Georgia Frost. On the play Frost was dribbling up the far side and Oberlin goalie Sarah Grabinski elected to run out and challenge her, even though Frost was getting checked by an OC defender. With the pressure coming, Frost alertly crossed the ball to Mascia, who was streaking down the middle of the field and was welcomed with a wide-open goal.

The Yeowomen (4-8-2, 0-4-0 NCAC) had some opportunities to tie it, but a look by Briggin Scharf hit the cross bar in the 76th minute. Promising shots by Veronica Fusco and Katy Holihan were also turned away during the final minutes of action.

All in all, the Gators (9-4-1, 2-1-1 NCAC) fired off 17 shots with nine coming on goal. Oberlin triggered seven attempts on the night with two being on target. The Gators also turned in a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Grabinski recorded eight saves on the night – seven of which came in the second half.

Oberlin returns to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when it travels south to take on the Tigers of Wittenberg at 2 p.m.
