Box Score
December 12 – Alma College had four players in double figures as it cruised to a 76-51 win over the Oberlin College men's basketball team on Friday night.
Once again
Jordan Beard led the Oberlin offensive attack with 23 points, but OC continues to struggle to find scoring from additional outlets.
“We are in a bad funk right now,” head coach
Isaiah Cavaco said. “We are looking forward to working hard during the holiday break and hope to comeback rejuvenated after the new year.”
After falling behind early 8-3, the Yeomen (2-7) scored eight straight points to grab an 11-8 edge at the 13:11 mark of the first half. Unfortunately, Alma (1-7) scored 20 of the next 22 points to go on top 28-13 with just over five minutes left in the frame en route to claiming a 38-24 advantage at the break.
Oberlin continued to fight in the second half as Beard followed his own steal with one of his five triples on the night to get Oberlin within nine, 41-32, with 13:05 left to play. However, the Yeomen momentum was gone in what seemed like a blink of an eye as the Scots ripped off 11 consecutive points over the next three minutes and never looked back.
The Yeomen continue to find themselves on the wrong end of the rebounding battle – this time surrendering 45 boards, while raking in just 23 of their own.
OC also shot just 30.4-percent (17-of-56) in the game – including a respectable 10-of-30 effort from downtown (33 %). Alma finished at 50-percent (25-of-50) overall and from 3-point land (11-of-22).
Oberlin will look to regroup after the new year when it returns to play on January 3 with a 3 p.m. home tilt against Wittenberg.
