November 8 – Senior running back #R.V. Carroll# became Oberlin's all-time rushing leader on Saturday afternoon, but the College of Wooster Scots went on to spoil Senior Day for the Yeomen as they came away with a 27-7 win at Savage Stadium.
Entering the game 32 yards shy of Ron Stevenson (1979-82/3,462 yards) as the all-time rushing leader, Carroll gained 37 yards on 17 carries to lift his career total to 3,468 yards.
“R.V. is a special player and one of the greatest to ever suit up in a Yeomen uniform,” head coach
Jeff Ramsey said. “For him to battle back and return to the lineup says a lot about his character and is a true testament to the amount of hard work he has put in throughout his career.”
In his final game at Savage Stadium, quarterback
Greg Mangan was 24-of-42 for 270 yards and one touchdown, but was plagued by two untimely interceptions and four sacks.
Sophomore
Ryan Harvey tied a season-high with 97 yards on seven catches, while senior
Mike Loll snagged six balls for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Wooster jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the second quarter on a pair of Dustin Sheppard TD runs. However, it appeared of that the Yeomen were going to cut into lead just before the half but a 12-play drive was short circuited by a Mangan INT.
Near the start of the third quarter, the Yeomen were driving again, but the Scots defense once again came up big as Matt DeGrand picked off an errant Mangan pass and returned it 40 yards to setup Sheppard's third score of the game just two plays later – making it a 20-0 Wooster advantage.
Oberlin (2-7, 2-4 NCAC) broke through at the start of the fourth quarter when a Mangan to Loll 11-yard scoring strike capped off a 9-play, 81-yard drive that covered 4:10 off of the clock.
Wooster (7-2, 5-1 NCAC) added a late score and effectively put the game out of reach for the Yeomen.
Defensively, the Yeomen got a career-best effort from
Tyler Lewis with 14 tackles, while fellow sophomore
Ron Rupard joined him in double digits with 10 stops.
