Oct. 18 -
Sophomore Joanna Johnson won the Inter-Regional Rumble with a time of 21:03 on the 6K course. Which led the Yeowomen to a 6th place overall finish in the 27 team field.  Johnson won the race by 22 seconds besting fellow sophomore Wendy Pavlus of St. Lawrence.  Running on her home course Johnson looked strong throughout opening with a 5:30 mile and hanging on to finish the 6,000 meter course with an average mile pace of 5:39.

Also running a strong race for the Yeowomen was senior Nicky Ouellet who finished 18th overall with a time of 22:26, and was the second NCAC finisher among the women.  Also scoring for the Yeowomen were junior Piper Niehaus (41st, 23:09), senior Clara Shaw (62nd, 23:26), and junior Cordelia Revells (72nd, 23:28).

The Yeowomen scored a grand total of 194 points in their 6th place finish, just five points behind fifth place Kenyon College.  Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said, "It was nice to race in some cooler temperatures like we will probably have the rest of the way.  We would have liked to beat Kenyon today, but if I had a choice I'd rather catch them in two weeks at our conference meet.  And that is shaping up to be a great race!"

On the Men's side, Oberlin had another good day finishing 10th in the 30 team field.  Senior Conor Doss once again was at the front of Oberlin's pack and finished the 8k race in 25:45.  Perhaps the most impressive part of today's race was the fact that Oberlin finished with the 7th best spread (50 seconds - time between 1st and 5th place runners) in the 30 team field.

First-year Ben Schild continued his terrific rookie season finishing second for the Yeomen and running a sub-26:00 8,000 meters.  Also scoring for Oberlin were: sophomores Justin Warner (63rd, 26:05) and Albert Davila (84th, 26:24), and senior Everett Schlawin (102nd, 26:35).

Coach Appenheimer quipped, "The pack ran pretty well today...it was also great to see Stephen [Williams] right with the group until the very end.  A couple more good workouts this week and we should be ready to take on the NCAC."

The conference meet will take place on Saturday, November 1 at 11:00 am right back on Oberlin's new Cross Country course.
